Case study #3

For this case study I chose to analyze “Advice from a 20 something” by Amanda Holstein. Amanda chose to start this blog by helping anyone in life who felt lost, or out of place. After she graduated from Emory University, she began writing to reach out to adults who were also going through a difficult time. In her “About me” section on the homepage of her blog, she states “I’m not exactly who you’d expect to turn to, considering I am the youngest in my family, they’re always watching.” As I can relate to this, growing up being the youngest has always had it benefits, and its downfalls. Observing from others successes, as well as their mistakes. I felt this blog was perfect to observe and the most relatable to me.

The layout of the blog is very modern. The Author has created her own logo

The Author has multiple sections of her blog along with pictures that describe the different types of blog posts. Ranging from “3 ways to make your trip more memorable” to “3 ways I managed to get out of my depression.” I believe Amanda’s blog attracts kids in their college years and even older because many kids in college go through a period of their life where they feel lost, out of place, and feeling like they don’t belong. All photos in her blog are taken and owned by the author herself. All and all I believe the blog has a very good concept, and is very helpful to those who are looking for advice. When you first enter the blog, a post pops up asking to “stay in touch” with her, making you enter your email for updates on different blog posts and subscribing to her. This is a good way to interact with your audience. Amanda also has all her social media accounts linked to her blog so she can interact with a wider audience other than just her page. This months popular links were “five ways to unwind after work”, “Tackling the question why aren’t you married?”, and, “How to know you’re in a controlling relationship.”

Overall, this blog is very well put together, and I can’t think of anything I would do differently. Amanda has managed to become successful words, and her relate-able posts from her past experiences.
